Follis (Bronze, 22 mm, 3.62 g, 6 h), an anonymous post-reform follis overstruck on a Pseudo-Byzantine type, imitating an official issue of Constans II (AD 641-668), uncertain mint. ‘Rasul / Allāh’ (‘The messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); traces of undertype: Constans II standing facing, crowned and draped, holding long cross in his right hand; on the right, Constantine IV, standing facing, beardless and crowned, holding globus cruciger in his right hand. Rev. ‘Li-llāh’ (‘To Allah [it belongs]’ in Arabic); traces of undertype: large M in center; above, monogram; to left, A/N/O; to right, X/Ч/II (RY 17) to right; inverted crescent below; in exergue, CON. Cf. SB 1010 (for prototype of the Pseudo-Byzantine undertype). An extremely rare post-reform issue overstruck on an Arab-Byzantine type. Areas of weakness and with traces of overstriking, otherwise, about very fine.
